Cookery School

You can simply enjoy a light-hearted demonstration with supper after your exertions, roll up your sleeves with a "hands-on" cookery course, dine on your handiwork and take home your very own goody bag, even the opportunity to fulfil that long held ambition and become "Chef for a Day".  These cookery classes are ideal as a treat for yourself, make fantastic gifts, and are now available as a corporate team building package.  We have a range of classes, with new dates always being added.  It's the most exciting place to learn, be it novice or professional.

MASTERCLASS EVENINGS 2010

SATURDAY MORNING KITCHEN 2010

A "hands-on" cookery class.  Tuition, recipe sheets, step by step instructions, lunch and a goody bag to take home.  Course dates are often repeated so, even if you can't make a specific date, it's always worth a call.  Arrive at 10.00 am for coffee, with a 10.30 am kitchen start.  Lunch at 1.30 pm.  £100.00 pp unless stated.

Tuesday 31st August: Teenage Master Chef
A class for teenagers, making roasted tomato soup, baked chicken with chilli, peppers and olives, and chocolate bread & butter pudding.

CHEF FOR A DAY: A unique experience exclusive to The Lavender House!

Your chance to experience life in a professional kitchen and cook up a spectacular meal for friends and family.  Arrive at 2.30 pm for a briefing and tour, then head into the kitchen to prepare and cook your very own dinner party.  Bread, butchery, fish, stunning desserts, chocolates ... we'll guide you through all aspects of the meal with one to one tuition throughout.  At 7.00 pm your guests will arrive for a champagne reception, and dine on the fruits of your labour.  You can flit from kitchen to table serving and eating, as we ensure everything runs smoothly.  You take the credit, we'll wash up.

INSPIRATIONAL TEAM BUILDING WITH THE CORPORATE COOKERY EXPERIENCE

A new way to promote team building, inspire confidence, reward and have fun!  Following a short motivational talk by Chef Proprietor, Richard Hughes, it's into the kitchen for a day's beating, kneading, tasting and waiting.  All pulling together to produce the most wonderful results, and all enjoyed by the participants at the end of the day.  Enjoyed in 2005 by Waitrose, the One Account and the MLC.

“Do I need to be an experienced cook?”
No, we can teach any standard – from beginner to experienced.  You can watch a demo, enjoy a hands-on experience or enjoy a one to one session with the professional chefs in the kitchen.

“Do I need to bring any equipment with me?”
Everything you need to enjoy your chosen event will be provided for you.  Just bring lots of enthusiasm.

“Who teaches the courses?”
Richard Hughes delivers the majority of courses, and Richard Knights teaches many of the patisserie events.  On occasions there are also demonstration days by specialists brought in from outside.

Other important points:

• Both Richard Hughes and Richard Knights are experienced adult education tutors.
• The Cookery School has Public Liability Insurance in the event of an accident.
• Recipe sheets are available to take home from all Cookery School days.
