The Lavender House View Full Photo

Those of you who know The Lavender House know that we don't often go in for deals: it's just not the sort of place that you'll find two for one or all you can eat! However, following on from last year's promotion, we are repeating the 2011 offer throughout January: the opportunity to dine from the 9 course tasting menu for the price of the regular dinner menu, £39.95 (available Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights). Just click on the Menus page to view the January Tasting Menu.

We are also revamping the Sunday lunch service to offer a traditional roast sirloin of local beef with family service vegetables and jugs of gravy; and we are also offering a monthly retro Old Beams Classic on both the Sunday lunch and the dinner menus. January sees the return of the Veal Holstein!

Despite all the doom and gloom, 2011 proved to be a very successful year for The Lavender House. With The Pigs and The Assembly House well under control, all our attentions are focused back on our flagship. I'm cooking every service and enjoying it more than ever, and with 2012 being our tenth year here, we are planning a very big year indeed!

Regards Richard

HarperWells Fine Wine Evenings 2012

Thursday 19th January
The guys at HarperWells have selected some extraordinary wines to bring a bit of mid-winter cheer into January. And we're going big for the January Wine Supper! Big bold flavours on the plate, full-flavoured wines with plenty of depth and oomph, and plenty of good chat. Expect some spicy dishes, some classic European feast-style plates, as well as some punchy cheeses and a special winter dessert. We'll even round the evening off with a warming 10 year old Armagnac to make sure you don't catch cold on the way home. £55.00pp includes all food and wine. 7.00 pm arrival for 7.30 pm. Details of the menu are on the Menus page.

Thursday 18th April
With special Guest of Honour, Andrew Gunn, owner of the Iona Estate in South Africa. Andrew is a great winemaker and the Iona wines are amongst my favourite from the Cape. HarperWells have offered them since they started their business.

"The wines of Iona come from a dramatically unique site in the Cape Winelands. The vineyards are on a mountain plateau, 420 metres above sea level, surrounded by the Kogelberg Nature Reserve, and overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. In a country where cool sites are precious, these vineyards are like gold - the grapes ripening up to two months later than other Cape vineyards and in perfect balance. Iona is South Africa's coolest vineyard site. Andrew Gunn and family acquired this beautiful, but run-down, apple farm in 1997. It was renamed "IONA" after the remote, spiritual island off the west coast of Scotland. We Gunns can trace our ancestry to the Vikings that landed in Scotland in the 900's, hence the Viking longboat emblem on our labels. Since our first release in 2001, the wines of Iona have quickly made a name as being among the finest in the world."

5 courses, matched with some of the finest wines in the world! £55.00pp.
